What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “Yoga”? Legging clad slim women enjoying challenging poses or twisting like rubber? Well, over the past decade, yoga has emerged from being a pastime to becoming a mainstream form of exercise. It is good to achieve flexibility, as a stress buster exercise and in some cases, it is also seen as a good workout session.
But what is happening to the true meaning of yoga? With International Yoga Day all set to roll on us on Wednesday, 21 June 2017, let us once again remind the world that yoga is a not a lesson that can be learned by attending a class, rather it is a lifestyle that a person choose to opt for.
So now if you are asking how I should live the lifestyle, here are few rules and interpretation of the lifestyle that you can include in your routine to evolve with yoga.
Be Honest With Yourself
The first and the most important factor is, to be honest with oneself. What do you believe in? What do you think is your truth? What feels right for you? Try to find answers to these questions and resist the temptation to convince yourself of something you are not comfortable with. Live a truthful life and have integrity.
You should love yourself enough to take care of your mind and body. Opt for healthy and clean food instead of opting for junk food. Exercise regularly and make sure to keep your mind healthy by practicing meditation regularly. Invest some time in your well being as it is not a luxury rather is fast becoming a necessity.
Respect Other People
Be aware of your actions and the way they affect other human beings. Don’t judge people based on their actions, rather try to live in harmony with nature, other human beings and animals. You should respect people even if they choose a different path than yours.
Be Grateful for What You Have
Helping others in time of need and gratitude brings happiness. Every day when you get up, remind yourself of everything good that has happened in your life and try to make someone smile every day. You can start with small things like buying someone a cup of tea, smiling at a stranger or having a conversation with a colleague who is having a bad day. As humans, you should not forget how small things can help bring in happiness in our lives.
As a human being, you should be aware of your thoughts and the way they affect you. Do you feel some food ingredients make you feel better than others? Do you know what trigger certain type of behavior in you? Be mindful and practice yoga daily to be aware of your thoughts.
So on 21st June 2017, set up your intention to introduce yoga into your lifestyle and practice it daily to reap great benefits from it. Practicing yoga is an ongoing journey, so try to integrate it into your everyday routine.
